Berg Insight says 88 percent of PNDs sold in 2015 will have integrated cellular connectivity

According to a new research report from the analyst firm Berg Insight, global shipments of Personal Navigation Devices (PNDs) will peak at about 50 million units per year in 2012 and slightly decline thereafter. Growing shipments in emerging markets are not likely to fully compensate for the decline in Europe and North America, where higher adoption of handset-based navigation services will become the primary navigation solution for occasional users.

Magellan is the latest GPS vendor to release the iPhone app

And the latest GPS device maker to release its own iPhone app is Magellan. They’ve announced Magellan RoadMate turn-by-turn navigation application, alongside a “new innovative vehicle mounting cradle for the iPhone and iPod touch devices” that will be available later in December.

RouteBuddy Ltd announce the release of four more 1:24,000 scale Topo State Maps for the iPhone and iPod touch.

The four new US States covered with detailed USGS maps are: Virginia, Maine, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Berg Insight says 3.5 million cars in Europe have a telematics device

According to a new research report from the analyst firm Berg Insight, 3.5 million passenger cars in Europe will have an on-board telematics device at the end of 2009. The installed base has continued to grow during the year but the year-on-year growth rate is projected to decrease from 35.9 percent in 2008 to 18.4 percent in 2009 due to the weaker demand on the automotive market.
