Navteq, Microsoft Partner on Collection Capabilities for 3D Maps

Digital map provider Navteq today announced a new technology agreement that will allow the company to more rapidly deploy innovative collection capabilities and accelerate the collection, creation, and storage of 3D map data and visuals. Navteq and Microsoft have agreed to work together to support technological advancements in this area, through which Navteq will also provide Microsoft Corp. with 3D map data and visuals to power new mapping features.

The DeLorme North America Data Sets provide a routable US highway, street, back road, and trail network. Detail also includes land cover, drainage and open water, plus places of interest. It is compiled from a variety of sources and includes a digital elevation model to provide topographic detail and contours.

Vodafone selects Tele Atlas to power all future location based mobile services

Vodafone is one of the largest mobile operators in the world, spread out in 25 countries under the Vodafone brand, and partnering with operators in 42 other nations. When they make a decision, it ripples through out the entire industry. Nokia purchased NAVTEQ for over $8 billion with the intention of becoming the world’s best, and largest, provider of maps. That may still be possible, but it isn’t going to be with the help of Vodafone.

Android Version of Trimble Outdoors Application Now Available for Outdoor Adventurers

Trimble makes it easier and more fun for fans of the T-Mobile G1 to take a hike, climb a mountain or reel in the big one by using the power of their phone’s Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. The Trimble Outdoors(TM) application is now available on the G1, the first phone for the Android(TM) open software platform. Trimble Outdoors turns the G1 into a full-featured GPS navigator and geotagging tool for hiking, backpacking, fishing and other outdoor activities.

TomTom and CosmicNavigation sign partnership contract

TomTom has signed a partnership contract with the developer of GPS products from Amsterdam, CosmicNavigation.
It’s for the first time in it’s excistence that TomTom will promote and market ‘third party content’. CosmicNavigation’s cycling, marine and touring content will initialy fall under this agreement.
